Which type should I choose?

When you create a subscription, Repeats by offers three types: Regular interval, Season and Fixed dates. The type decides when you visit the customer — and how the subscription can be billed. This guide gives you the overview, so you pick the right one the first time.

The types apply to subscriptions of the Subscription kind. If you pick On demand, there is no fixed rhythm to set.

Three questions that settle it

Ask them in order. The first "yes" is your type.

  1. Do you visit in the same rhythm all year? → Choose Regular interval.
  2. Is there a rhythm, but only in some months of the year — or should the customer pay one fixed price for the season? → Choose Season.
  3. Is there no rhythm, just specific dates every year? → Choose Fixed dates.

Tip: Torn between Regular interval and Season? Ask yourself whether you take a break for part of the year. If you do, it's Season.

Regular interval

The same rhythm all year round. You set:

  1. Weeks or Months — whether the rhythm is counted in weeks or in months.
  2. Interval — for example every 4 weeks or every 2 months. Pick one of the preset buttons, or type your own number.
  3. Start week — the week the subscription begins.

With Months, the visit lands in the same place in the month each time, based on the start week. If it should always be on a particular weekday — say the 2nd Tuesday — tick Fixed weekday of the month, then choose Second and Tuesday under Position in the month.

Season

A rhythm that only runs in certain months. You set the same things as for Regular interval — Weeks / Months, interval and start week — and also pick the season under Season.

A season is always one continuous period. There are two ways to pick it:

  • Pick a standard season — click one of your standard seasons above the months.
  • Pick the period yourself — click the season's first month, then its last. The months in between are filled in for you.

Once the season is set:

  • If you picked the period yourself, you can keep it as a new standard season with Save as standard season.
  • To start over, click Clear.
  • You edit the standard seasons under Settings → Planning → Seasons.

A season may run across New Year. Click November, then March, and you get November–March for snow clearing. All twelve months, on the other hand, aren't a season — if you visit all year, choose Regular interval.

If the visits should only fall in a few scattered months, say April and September, use Fixed dates instead.

Season is also the only type that can be billed Per season — one fixed price for the whole season. Billing is covered in Subscriptions: Recurring service jobs.

Fixed dates

No rhythm — just the dates the customer should be visited, repeated every year.

  1. Pick the months the visit should fall in. Each month straight away gets one concrete date, which you can move.
  2. If the visits should simply be spread out, enter a number and a period — for example "2 visits between April and October" — and click Fill in. The visits are spread over the period, at most one date per month, and replace the dates that were there before. Afterwards they are ordinary dates you can move one by one.
  3. Pick the cheapest weeks moves each date to the week of its month where the visit adds the least extra driving.

On Fixed dates, the Start week only decides which of the dates the subscription begins on — not when the visits fall.

Fixed dates can be billed Per visit or Every Nth visit. Per season isn't possible here, because there is no season to bill.

FAQ: Subscription types

Can I change the type on an existing subscription?
Yes. Open the subscription and pick another type under Repeats by. If you only peek at another type and switch back before saving, the subscription keeps its season, its rhythm and its billing method.
Why can't I choose Per season?
Per season is only available under the Season type. Choose Season under Repeats by — then the option appears.
My subscription is set to Per season, but I picked another type. What happens?
The billing method stays as it is, but you're told that Per season needs a season, and the subscription can't be saved like that. Switch back to Season, or choose another billing method.
Can a season run across New Year?
Yes. Click November first, then March, and the season covers November–March. It can be billed Per season like any other season.
Can a season have a gap, say April–May plus September?
No. A season is always one continuous period from its first month to its last. If the visits should fall in scattered months, use Fixed dates.
What does the start week mean on Fixed dates?
It only decides which of the dates the subscription begins on. The visits themselves fall on the dates you picked.
